ICA30105 Certificate III in Information Technology
This qualification has been designed to provide the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in introductory Information Communications Technology (ICT) ‘technical’ functions, and is designed to support information activities in the workplace and to achieve a degree of self-sufficiency as an advanced ICT ‘user’.
This course provides a comprehensive background to both hardware and software associated with personal computers and is suitable for a person providing basic software support to a unit or branch within an organisation.
Minimum entry requirement is competence in the following 9 units of competency;
- BSBOHS201A - Participate in OHS processes
- ICAU1128B - Operate a personal computer
- ICAD2012B - Design organisational documents using computing packages
- ICAU2005B - Operate computer hardware
- ICAU2006B - Operate computing packages
- ICAU2013B - Integrate commercial computing packages
- ICAU2231B - Use computer operating system
- ICAW2001B - Work effectively in an IT environment
- ICAW2002B - Communicate in the workplace
A number of units within this qualification have prerequisites.
Participants achieving this qualification will develop skills and knowledge in;
- The hardware and software associated with personal computers
- Developing macros and templates
- Creating user and technical documentation
- Performing system diagnostic tests and providing diagnostic support in an organisation
- Connecting internal hardware components

- ICAS3031B - Provide advice to clients
- ICAS3234B - Care for computer hardware
- ICAT3025B - Run standard diagnostic tests
- ICAU3004B - Apply occupational health and safety procedures
Specialist support stream units
- ICAI3021B - Connect internal hardware components
- ICAS3024B - Provide basic system administration
- ICAS3115B - Maintain equipment and software in working order
- ICAU3019B - Migrate to new technology
- ICTCC330A - Manage customer relationship
Elective units
- ICAS4134B - Provide first-level remote help desk support
- ICAD4190B - Maintain information standards
- ICAI4097B - Install and configure a network
- ICAD4217B - Create technical documentation
To be awarded this qualification, the student must successfully complete 15 units of competency, 6 Core units, 5 Specialist Core stream units and 4 Elective units.
Upon successful completion of this course students will receive a ICA30105 Certificate III in Information Technology.
This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
After achieving the ICA30105 Certificate III in Information Technology, students may undertake the ICA40105 Certificate IV in Information Technology, or a range of other Certificate IV qualifications.
A formal process for recognising skills and knowledge, RPL takes into account previous studies you may have completed as well as life and work experiences. You may be granted credits or exemptions for some units in this course.
