ICA20105 Certificate II in Information Technology
This qualification provides the foundation ICT skills and knowledge for an individual to be an effective ICT user or employee. The qualification has a fundamental ICT knowledge and skills base which is pivotal for all other qualifications in ICA05. The 8 core units contain those basic ICT skills and knowledge required for effective entry into all ICA05 qualifications from Certificate III upwards. The qualification introduces OH&S and soft skills such as communication into the 8 core units.
A number of units within this qualification have prerequisites.
Participants achieving this qualification will develop skills and knowledge in;
- Using a graphical user interface (MS Windows)
- The most widely used business computer software packages (MS Word, Excel, Access and a desktop publishing package)
- Basic computer networks & computer hardware
- Effectively communicating in the workplace
- The IT environment in the workplace
- Work, Health and Safety issues
- Operating computer hardware and peripherals
- Steps required for migrating to new technology and applying problem solving techniques and running diagnostic tests

- ICAW2001B - Work effectively in an IT environment
- ICAW2002B - Communicate in the workplace
Elective units
- ICAI2015B - Install software applications
- ICAS2010B - Apply problem solving techniques to routine malfunctions
- ICAS2014B - Connect hardware peripherals
- ICAT3025B - Run standard diagnostic tests
- ICAU3019B - Migrate to new technology
To be awarded this qualification, the student must successfully complete 14 units of competency, 1 Prerequisite unit, 8 Core units and 5 Elective units.
Upon successful completion of this course students will receive a ICA20105 Certificate II in Information Technology.
This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
After achieving the ICA20105 Certificate II in Information Technology, students may undertake the ICA30105 Certificate III in Information Technology, or a range of other Certificate III or IV qualifications.
A formal process for recognising skills and knowledge, RPL takes into account previous studies you may have completed as well as life and work experiences. You may be granted credits or exemptions for some units in this course.
